When the Sky Turned Dark (Cinematic Easter)

Verse 1

When the sky turned dark

and the ground went still

You hung there silent

on that hard old hill

They rolled the stone in place

and called it the end

But mercy kept breathing

in the hearts of men

Pre-Chorus

Friday held its shadow

cold on every face

Hope looked small and trembling

in that borrowed place

But the night was never

strong enough to stay

Something in the waiting

was already awake

Chorus

When the sky turned dark

You stayed in love

When the stone was sealed

You rose above

When the sky turned dark

Heaven heard our cry

(Heaven heard our cry)

And the grave lost hold

on life

Verse 2

Mary at the doorway

with her hands of dust

Peter with his question

trembling under trust

All the broken stories

all the wounded years

Gathered in the silence

and the falling tears

Pre-Chorus

Then a wind like promise

moved across the dawn

All the old fear shaking

all the chains undone

The sealed-up sorrow

split by holy flame

And the name of Jesus

filled the air again

Chorus

When the sky turned dark

You stayed in love

When the stone was sealed

You rose above

When the sky turned dark

Heaven heard our cry

(Heaven heard our cry)

And the grave lost hold

on life

Bridge

Now we walk through ashes

with a lifted face

Every wound can meet You

every loss find grace

Death has lost its thunder

the tomb is not our home

You are the living Savior

and we are not alone

Final Chorus

When the sky turned dark

You stayed in love

When the stone was sealed

You rose above

When the sky turned dark

Heaven heard our cry

(Heaven heard our cry)

And the grave lost hold

on life

When the sky turned dark

the morning came

Every fear was silenced

by Your holy name

When the sky turned dark

You broke the night

(You broke the night)

And every heart now sings

alive
