Beneath the Shadow of the Cross (Christian Worship)

Verse 1

The hill was bare and cold

The sky held back its light

You walked with bloodied hands

For a world that lost its sight

The wood was rough and dark

The nails were set in place

And still You gave Your life

With mercy on Your face

Pre-Chorus

Oh, Lamb of God

You stayed

Oh, Holy One

You paid

Every sin that I could name

You carried it into the grave

Chorus

Beneath the shadow of the cross

My pride falls to the ground

Beneath the shadow of the cross

My heart is holy now

You took my shame, You took my loss

Love poured out, and held me close

Beneath the shadow of the cross

I am not my own

Verse 2

I hear the hammer blow

I feel the silence break

The earth stood still to see

The veil begin to shake

What kind of love would stay

When every wound was bare

What kind of King would kneel

And meet us in our fear

Pre-Chorus

Oh, Lamb of God

You stayed

Oh, Holy One

You paid

Every sin that I could name

You carried it into the grave

Chorus

Beneath the shadow of the cross

My pride falls to the ground

Beneath the shadow of the cross

My heart is holy now

You took my shame, You took my loss

Love poured out, and held me close

Beneath the shadow of the cross

I am not my own

Bridge

When darkness covered all

Your promise still held fast

You spoke a final word

And death could not outlast

So when my hope is thin

And when my tears run dry

I will stand where mercy bled

And lift my weary eyes

Chorus

Beneath the shadow of the cross

My pride falls to the ground

Beneath the shadow of the cross

My heart is holy now

You took my shame, You took my loss

Love poured out, and held me close

Beneath the shadow of the cross

I am not my own
